Traumatic Liver Injury

Abstract
Our recent experience with ¥± cases of liver injury, treated surgically from April of 1964 to September
of 1971 at S.N.U.H. has been studied and reviewed literature briefly.
1. Sex ratio (male to female) was 4.5 : 1 and prevalent age were 3rd & 4th decades.
2. All cases were blunt liver injuries.
3. The sites of injury were 10in Rt. & 1 in LT. lobe. Seven of 10 Rt. 1 lobe injuries were in the ant.
surface.
4. The most frequent associated injury was rib fracture and 6.37% in its incidence.
5. We treated all cases surgically, 6 by simple closure, 2 by resection, 1 by gauze packing & 2 by explo
ration only.
6. 5 cases of 11 were expired, 1 by septic shock and 4 by associated injuries. THe overall mortality
rate was 45.5%.
The mortality rate of 7 cases with associated injuries was 57&% aed that of 4 case without associated
injuries was 25%.
